A hand-hammered and engraved bowl, supplied with its mallet and cushion; the hammering gives the metal its tone and its long tail of sound.
Where the motif comes from. The five-pointed star within a circle stands for the four elements united by spirit; it is the most recognizable symbol of the Wiccan tradition.

In practice. Rub the rim slowly with the mallet to bring the note up, or strike the wall gently for a clean tone. A bowl held flat on the palm rings longer. Do not fill with water if the bowl is engraved; wipe fingerprints with a dry cloth.
