Cut from a vein of fibrous gypsum, selenite carries light from one end of the piece to the other like mineral silk.
A translucent white with parallel fibers that carry light from one end of the piece to the other, like mineral silk.
Symbolic reading. Tradition makes it a stone of clarity and cleansing — it is the one traditionally used to rest other minerals on.
Where the motif comes from. The open hand — khamsa to some, hamsa to others — is a protective motif shared by the southern and northern shores of the Mediterranean.
In practice. At its best set in front of a light source. Traditionally, other minerals are rested on it between uses. A soft, soluble material: keep it dry, never water or any product.
