Indian rune set in a pouch — Moss agate

A translucent chalcedony in which green dendrites draw patterns of lichen or fern caught in ice.

Twenty-five stones engraved with the elder futhark, presented in their fabric pouch; the characters are carved and then picked out.

What tradition attributes to it. Called the "gardeners' stone", tradition links it to plant cycles, to patience and to the fertility of projects.

Use & upkeep. Drawn blind, hand in the pouch, one to three depending on the question asked. Keep them in the pouch: the stones scratch each other if left loose.

• The green patterns are not moss but iron and manganese oxides crystallized into branching forms.
